These chapters seem to be moving so fast these days and the downward spiral of the Nephites happen quickly started by the government being overthrown which separates the people into tribes with Jacob becoming sort of a king among some. Nephi continues to preach repentance and raises his brother from the dead showing his power and authority granted by the Lord.
In the 30th year, the chief judge is murdered and no one is popular enough to be elected the next so they people are divided to start distinguishing as family and kindreds with leaders over them (v1-4). There was great iniquity among the people because of the influence of Satan, and the laws and regulations of the government was destroyed having most of the people now wicked after only 6 years since they had been converted and the Gadiantons wiped out (v5-8). The secret combinations start again and the new leader is called Jacob, being the chosen king of the group that entered into a covenant to destroy the government that the rest of the tribes established because he was cunning and flattered away many to build a kingdom in the northernmost part of the land (v9-13).
At the start of the 31st year there was a system between tribes to work together and have laws but they were not righteous and cast out the prophets or religious people including Nephi who was the spiritual leader of the current time (v14). Nephi constantly received guidance from angels and had power given unto him to work miracles while he preached and ministered unto the members of the church (v14-17). There were many that didn't like him just because he had greater power than they and worked miracles like raising his brother from the dead after being stoned (v18-20).
There weren't many members left, but they were strong and believed the power that Nephi held was the power of God being manifested through him doing the work of Jesus Christ among the saints (v21-22). Another two years pass and it isn't until the 33rd year that there were many who were baptized after hearing Nephi minister to the people and bare testimony of the Savior (v23-26).
