When the voice comes again after silence, Christ promises to gather his people and protect them because they are the more righteous who have been preserved.
After the words the first time the voice spoke to everyone, they were all silent and that lasted several hours with no lamenting or mourning until it came again (v1-3). The voice, which we know to be Christ, speaks of a parable of a hen and her chickens being gathered under her wings to protect and nourish them to compare what He has done for us saying how oft has He, would He, and will He gather them (v4-7). After this second vocal visitation, the people begin to mourn again and the light came again in the morning with all trembling of the earth ceasing and joyous cries starting from the people because of the scriptures being fulfilled (v8-11).
The more righteous part of the people were saved because they had received the prophets and accepted their words which included prophecies of the destruction they just witnessed and the coming of Christ (v12-15). There was Zenos, Zenock, and Jacob who testified of Christs coming on the plates that Lehi brought out of Jerusalem (v16-17). Mormon plans to show us that in the end of the 34th year, the people who had been spared will be visited by Christ to be shown His body and ministered unto by Him (v18-19).
