From the previous chapter, it is good to ponder on what ye should do to endure to the end (v1). Nephi has said once we are baptized we receive the blessing of the Holy Ghost and are able to speak with angels and should feast on the words of Christ (v2-3). To gain a full understanding of the words, ask of God because it will be shown unto you by the Holy Ghost (v4-5).
So far at this time when Nephi is writing these things, the doctrine of Christ is the law of Moses and when Christ comes again, He will give the new law (v6). Nephi isn't able to tell all that he knows because the people are not ready for the knowledge but he encourages them to think on the truths he has spoken (v7-8). His people ponder in their hearts but don't always turn to the spirit to teach them. They must pray always unto the Father and avoid anything that teaches men not to pray because it is of the devil (v8-9).
