There has been more battles and Mormon writes to his son to reassure him that he lives even though many have fallen, and the Lamanites are baring down in them to destroy the Nephites for their wickedness (v1-3). Mormon has tried preaching with sharp words which it angers the people, but with no sharpness, they harden their hearts because they have lost love for one another and only seek revenge (v4-5). This state of the people doesn't mean the righteous can slack off in preaching the words of God (v6).
The Lamanites have taken many prisoners and do disgusting things that are a great abomination including forced cannibalism, rape, murder, and torture (7-10). These people used to be civilized! How can we expect God to stay His hand of judgment upon such wickedness when they used to be delightsome people (v11-15). There are widows and their families left with no food, armies that are weak, and so many other perversions of good things that can't be said during this long awful war (v16-19).
Enough describing awful things, Mormon cannot recommend the people be saved by God because he knows they don't deserve it, but he does recommend his son to God because he is righteous (v20-22). If the Nephites perish, it will be just like the Jaredites who brought it upon themselves, and Mormon hopes not toe be killed during the battle because he still has the sacred records to give to Moroni (v23-24). His parting words include encouragement to let Christ lift his spirits despite the many deaths and hardships because everything is in the hands of God, and he will abide with the righteous (v25-26).
