Ether Ch9

The leading of the kingdom changes hands through descent, intrigue, and murder leading the people to need to be called to repentance. There are famine and poisonous serpents sent by the Lord to plague the people and humble them unto repentance.
Moroni gets back to telling us about the Jaredites and how Akish overthrew the kingdom even though Omer was warned by the Lord of the dangers and to leave the land with his family, except Jared (v1-3). Jared was anointed as king by the hand of wickedness and gave Akish his daughter to wife, but soon Akish wanted to be king so he caused his secret organization that had spread to kill Jared (v4-6). Akish was so power hungry that he was even jealous of his own son and locked him in prison and starved him to death which upset his brother, Nimrah, so much that he left with some friends to where Omer had fled to (v7-9).
Akish had other sons that won the hearts of the people and because they were led by a power hungry king, they were also desirous for power and ended up leading away more than half the power with bribes to wage war against their father, Akish, that killed all the people except 30 that joined Omer (v10-12). Omer now was king again over the people and then he passed the responsibility to his son Emer who reigned in peace for 2 years with guidance from his father and then in righteousness for 62 years with the curse being taken off the land from the Lord (v13-20). Emer's righteous judgements let him be faithful enough to see the Son of Righteousness and it influenced the next king Coriantum who was guided 4 years by his father, Emer, before his peaceful death (v21-22).
Coriantum actually didn't have children until really late in his life when he took to wife a young maid who could bare children so the kingdom could be passed to Com and continue to spread over the land (v23-25). Heth, son of Com, started to embrace the secret plans of old and killed his father with the sword, taking the throne from him by evil combinations that were spreading to the entire people creating great wickedness (v26-27). Prophets were sent to cry repentance or else a famine would come to destroy the people, but they were cast out and left to perish in pits by command of Heth (v28-29).
Soon the Lord sent the famine and poisonous serpents that caused their flocks to flee southward and many people to perish, but as they tried to flee with their flocks southward away from the snakes, they found their way hedged up by the command of the Lord (v30-33). The people finally saw that they were about to be destroyed and came to the realization that they should repent of their sins and humble themselves before the Lord so that they can be blessed again from him (v34-35).
