A curse similar to one that we read about with the Nephites began in Jaredite time because of their wickedness, and it caused many things to be easily lost so that no one would lend anything or even put down his sword (v1-2). Two years after the battle from last chapter, Gilead, brother of Shared, attacked but was driven back by Coriantumr for a time causing thousands of deaths and only winning because he attacked when the army was drunk (v3-5). Gilead established himself as king and gaining power using secret combinations but it only caused him to eventually be killed and replaced by Lib, a man of great stature (v6-10).
During his first year as king, Coriantumr came to battle pressing his army to the seashore before Lib was able to smite them back to the wilderness of Akish (v11-14). Lib pursued them but Coriantumr was able to kill Lib during the battle so his brother, Shiz, takes over and pursued the fleeing army but caused the destruction of many cities on his way along with fear of his leadership in the land (v15-18). Instead of being defenseless, everyone picked a side and joined an army having a completely separated people all pitted against each other, and no one took time to bury the dead so the land was covered with bodies (v19-22). Ick (v23).
So apparently Shiz is possessed with hatred and revenge for his brother death because all this awfulness does not cease which totally fulfills the Lord's words and wrath against the people for their wickedness (v24-25). There is a 3 day bloody battle near the seashore but eventually Shiz's army flees and kills everyone in the land of Corihor who won't join them, and even worse they camped there until the armies of Coriantumr were set up in the hill Comnor calling them to battle (v26-28). 3 different times the two armies met in battle until Shiz gave Coriantumr enough wounds that he fainted as if dead so Shiz called his men off for a while (v29-31).
