Something I realize as I read through the title page is that the Book of Mormon was written for all people from the time it was written until the end. It was preserved for our time by The Lord because it would probably have been melted down and used as a crown or jewelry during the Great Apostacy. The Lord knew when it was safe for this information to come back to knowledge and provided the means of doing so.
The Book of Mormon has a purpose and it "is to show unto the remnant of the House of Israel what great things The Lord hath done for their fathers; and that [we] may know the covenants of The Lord, that [we] are not cast off forever." It is also a testiment that Jesus is the Christ which means he is the savior of man kind.
Most important to realize about the introduction is that it is basically a summary and tells what you are about to read. If you get lost in all the wording, remember, the crowning event is in 3rd Nephi! Make it there and you'll get to read about Christ's ministry to the Nephites. Three main things he addresses is (1) doctrine of the gospel, (2) plan of salvation, and (3) how to gain peace in life and eternal salvation. So pay attention :)Joseph Smith was right when he said "a man would get nearer to God by abiding by [the Book of Mormons] precepts." I have experienced this and know others have too. There is the promise in the last two paragraphs that can strengthen or start a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon.
