He travels for three days then settles and builds an altar for their worship (v6-7). Because he named the place, it suggests no one has been there and given a map to the people of Jerusalem. But he names it after his son Laman, to encourage him to be righteous because him and Lemuel were already being buttheads about moving. We see the begging of their repetitive murmurings.
I'm not a parent yet, but I've heard the stories and seen them too. Children are wonderful but they can also be a trial. I can say I both look forward to the day when I have my own kids and dread that day. Lehi has a good way of getting his to behave in v14 "he did confound them, that they first not utter against him; wherefore, they did as he commanded them." Pretty powerful!
I am really curious how old Nephi is when he goes to The Lord in prayer and asks to know the mysteries of God (v16). He then worries about the welfare of his older brothers (v18). And is answered with a sort of Patriarchical blessing in v20-22 where if Nephi is righteous he will be blessed and promised certain things.
