This chapter is pretty short and clues us in on Nephi's reasoning for the two separate Plates of Nephi. Nephi names both plates after himself because he wants to confuse us, wait no because he started them both. The ones we are reading from now, if you'll remember, are the small plates which contain the ministry of the Nephi's people (v3). The larger plates have the reign of kings, wars and contentions, and, we know, a fee more important spiritual matters.

He was commanded to write these plates by The Lord for a special and wise purpose which The Lord knoweth. In v6, he says, "he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works around the children of men." I know The Lord's work is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man (1 Moses 1:39). This helps us understand the purpose of Nephi writing this special record.

I hope everyone will understand that The Lord commanded these records to be written, preserved them for many years, and brought them back during this time for us. For the purpose of bringing to pass each of our immortality. And not only that, our eternal life that can be lived in happiness with our Heavenly Father. I cherish the messages in the Book of Mormon and strive to learn from them because they can help me learn how to live eternally and spread this knowledge to others.
