The former priests of Noah used their cunning to gain favor with the Lamanite king, Laman, and appointed teachers over all the lands under their control (v1-3). Amulon appointed more teachers of his choosing and this caused the language of Nephites to be custom with the Lamanites but they weren't taught of God (v4-5). They keep records and grow in riches and in wisdom of the world (v6-7).
Amulon persecutes Alma because he continues to teach Abinadi's words from before but all the authority being excersiced only caused the people to pray for help (v8-10). Amulon commanded them to stop and put to death those who prayed vocally so they continued to pray in their hearts (v11-12). And they were answered and comforted by The Lord, who made their burdens seem light (v13-15).
They exercised so much faith that The Lord gave Alma instructions to be ready to flee out of bondage (v16-17). They gathered their things and the Lamanites fell in a deep sleep so they could escape (v18-20). They were thankful and praised God and even needed to be told to hurry up and leave because the Lamanites started to come after them (v21-23). After 12 days of travel they arrived and were received by Mosiah to Zarahemla (v24-25).
