We are going to see the result of Alma's preaching in this chapter which is the cleansing and setting up the new and improved church in Zarahelma before Alma moves on to Gideon.
After preaching, Alma calls and ordains priests and elders to watch over the church in Zarahelma while he is away, especially the new members who repented of their sins and were baptized (v1-2). All those who heard the teachings of Alma that were members and did not repent, were rejected and excommunicated from the church (v3). These steps brought about order in the church so the word of God could be preached to all without deprivation (v4-5)
Everyone was given the commandment to meet together oft to learn of the word of God and pray for the welfare of the souls who did not know God (v6). Once these regulations in the church were made, Alma was free and felt comfortable enough to leave Zarahemla and travel to the city of Gideon, named after that awesome commander who was slain by Nehor (v7). Now he does the same thing he started in Zarahelma, visiting the church and testifying of Jesus Christ who will redeem the people (v8). We get to read the actual words in the next chapter so hold your horses because its coming!
