People were gathered and everyone was asked how they think they should escape the Lamanites (v1). No one could think of anything that wouldn't cause blood shed except just running into the wilderness until Gideon came to speak before the king (v2-4). Because he has been such a faithful servant while fighting against the Lamanites, he is allowed to tell his plan to escape out the back (v5-6). There is a group of Lamanites that like to get drunk and everyone will prepare to escape after they offer them a little extra on a certain night (v7-8).
The king immediately spread the word for everyone to start gathering up their flocks and sent a bunch of wine to the Lamanite guards (v9-10). When they passed out, the people left and traveled around the land of Shilom towards Zarahemla (v11). At first after reading they brought all their precious things I thought they were vain but now I don't. I think they would rather not have the precious things end up with the Lamanites who would have all that they left behind (v12).
They got away safe and made it to Zarahelma and joined the people of Mosiah who received them happily (v13-14). They presented their records to Mosiah to add them to the records he already had. The Lamanites did try to pursue them but lost their tracks after two days (v15-16). The army even got lost! Serves them right.
